Funky Divas & Dudes:
Funky Divas & Dudes create a magical world where children can let their personalities shine! While promoting a healthy life-style for kids through fun-filled physical activity, kids learn to express themselves through music and movement which builds positive self-esteem. The dance classes enhance social skills, teamwork, concentration, coordination, and balance, all the while having a fun, positive experience!
Funky Divas & Dudes was founded in 2002 by Kelly Lyans and Dana Marie Lazzareschi. The company started as an after-school enrichment dance program offered to elementary schools throughout the Los Angeles area featuring a variety of dance classes including jazz, hip-hop, breakdance, ballet, tap, Fairytale Theatre, and cheerleading. FD & D also entertain at children’s birthday parties, run performance art camps. They work with numerous charities around the Los Angeles area, have choreographed commercials, performed at fashion shows, corporate events, and for the past three years have performed at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards Pre-Party! They have also been featured on E! Entertainment and NBC’s Yip Yap News.
Funky Divas & Dudes have been working with Iverbe at the Willows Community School for the past eight years. They are proud to be teaming up with Iverbe Sports Camp this year, running the dance camp!
Kelly’s Bio:
Kelly Lyans has had a passion for dance since she was a young girl growing up in Ventura, CA. She grew up playing club soccer, taking dance classes and performing in local musical theater productions. At age 11, she started competing in jazz, tap and Scottish Highland dancing. In high school she joined a touring dance company and was a competitive cheerleader. She was awarded a dance and academic scholarship to Chapman University, where she earned her BFA in Theatre and Dance. She later toured the country with the Chapman Dance Tour. She has taught classes and directed dance programs all over Ventura County, the Los Angeles area, and Orange County. At age 19, she debuted in her first professional musical theater production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at the Santa Barbara Civic Light Opera. She pursued dancing and acting professionally for 5 years in Los Angeles before starting her company, Funky Divas & Dudes. She currently teaches dance classes for her company at The Willows Community School, as well as entertaining at children’s dance parties and running performing art camps. Kelly finds it very rewarding to share her knowledge of dance with kids! She feels blessed to have made a career out of her passion.
